The national conference was organised with the aim to gathering most relevant opinions on the Common Agricultural Policy reform, pros and cons and suggestions, likely to shape a comprehensive Romanian message to DG Agri on this topic. Such contributions coming from all over Europe, prompted by the pan-European public consultation initiated early this year, are to be consolidated by the Commissioner's cabinet, evaluated and presented in a Report at the EU conference "CAP after 2013" (Bruxelles, July 2010). Later on, in November, the EC will publish a communication about the future of CAP. The conference took place at Inter Continental and brought together not only Romanian and EC officials, but also specialists, media, stakeholders, representatives of the civil society and of producers' associations, to express, confront, compare and synergise their actions on the direction of the CAP reform. Over 130 participants contributed with interesting point of views into the debate, which become hot and exciting right from the beginning. Mr. Mihail Dumitru, the Minister for Agriculture and Mr. Pierre Bascou, Head of Unit in DG Agri were the keynote speakers, while Mr Niculae Idu was the host of the debate and Mr Gabriel Gherghescu moderated the discussions. Very valuable ideas and opinions were expressed by the other speakers: Cristian Ghinea, Director of the Romanian Centre for European Policies, Veronica Toncea, General Director of the Rural Credit Guarantee Fund, Cecilia Alexandri, Institute for Agricultural Economics, Dragoş Pîslaru, General Manager of the GEA Strategy & Consulting, Tudor Dorobanţu, representative of Agrostar and FNPAR. DC Communication and CRPE undertook the organisation of the event, coordinate the agenda and provide assistance to the speakers and participants, as well as documenting the whole event for further references (video recordings and summaries).
